Large data center rumored for Burgenland, Austria
A large-scale data center project is reportedly set to be announced imminently in Burgenland, Austria, on a site of up to 1.24 million square feet owned by the Burgenland Economic Development Agency outside the town of Nickelsdorf. Local reporting broke the story, though the regional government has only confirmed that inquiries from interested parties about hosting a facility on the site have been received, stopping short of confirming a deal.
The site, co-owned by the regional government and the economic development agency, was originally earmarked for a business park in 2023, but power supply inquiries for a data center have since come in from prospective operators. If confirmed, the project would mark Burgenland’s first data center, a notable milestone given the state is currently the only one in Austria without one, and its appeal has been bolstered by a newly opened hybrid solar and wind farm nearby.

PowerHouse files for 300MW data center campus outside Dallas-Fort Worth
PowerHouse Data Centers is expanding its Texas footprint with a new campus in Westlake, a town north of Fort Worth, where site plans point to as many as four 300,000-square-foot buildings totaling 300MW. Known as the Circle T Data Center, the project has been approved by the town’s planning and zoning commission after being presented to officials this week by PowerHouse’s parent, American Real Estate Partners.
As part of the arrangement, PowerHouse has funded a 350MW substation via utility Oncor at no cost to Westlake residents, which will also serve the town’s pump station. The Fort Worth project adds to a Texas pipeline that the company says spans 11 active and planned developments totaling 10GW, reinforcing the state’s position as one of the most active data center markets in the country.

AWS eyes potential data center development at 4.5GW natural gas plant in Pennsylvania
Amazon Web Services is exploring a data center development adjacent to Homer City Redevelopment, a planned 4.5GW natural gas plant outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The site, revealed through freedom of information requests, sits on a 3,200-acre plot that previously hosted a coal plant, and is expected to become one of the largest natural gas-fired facilities in the country when it comes online in 2028.
Amazon has confirmed it is in discussions with the plant’s owner as part of its broader pledge to invest at least $20 billion in Pennsylvania, though no definitive agreement is yet in place. The move follows AWS’s existing commitments in the state, including a data center campus adjacent to Talen Energy’s nuclear plant and other planned developments, underscoring the company’s strategy of pairing new compute capacity directly with dedicated power generation.

Blue Owl-backed Stack buys land in Culpeper County, Virginia
Investment firm Blue Owl Capital, through its Stack Infrastructure unit, has acquired a 71-acre development site in Culpeper County, Virginia for $66.4 million. The deal reflects the county’s rapid transformation from a secondary market into an institutional-grade data center destination as land in neighboring Loudoun County grows increasingly scarce.
Stack is emerging as one of the major operators in the county, reportedly tied to several large campuses including Peterson Companies’ Culpeper Technology Campus and the Copper Ridge development, together representing millions of square feet of potential data center space. The firm already operates roughly 2.4GW across ten campuses in Northern Virginia and continues to expand into Stafford, Caroline, and Pittsylvania counties.

Cipher eyes 900MW data center site outside San Antonio, Texas
Cipher, the cryptomining firm pivoting toward large-scale data center development, has brought its 300MW Black Pearl site in Texas online two months ahead of schedule, with the facility leased to Amazon Web Services for at least 15 years as part of a broader $5.5 billion agreement. The company reported second-quarter revenue of $25 million alongside a negative adjusted EBITDA of $30 million.
Separately, Cipher has secured an option on a new 288-acre site near San Antonio, dubbed Apollo, that could offer up to 900MW of capacity. The company says its Texas development pipeline now exceeds 5GW, with tenants including AWS and Google-backed Fluidstack, as it continues its transition from Bitcoin mining toward hyperscale and AI infrastructure.

Colt & RMZ look to develop gigawatt-scale data center campus in Vizag, India
Colt Data Centre Services and Indian real estate firm RMZ Corp are looking to expand their existing joint venture with a gigawatt-scale campus in Visakhapatnam, in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The state’s investment promotion committee has approved the roughly 1.25GW project, planned on 200 acres, with a first phase potentially going live by 2027.
The expansion builds on RMZ’s broader commitment to invest up to $10 billion in digital and industrial infrastructure across Andhra Pradesh over the next five to six years. Vizag is fast becoming a competitive data center hub, with Google, AdaniConneX, Tata, and Digital Realty’s Digital Connexion among the other developers already active in the city.

Data center firm Edged up for sale for $15 billion – report
Koch Inc. is reportedly considering a sale of data center firm Edged in a deal that could value the company at up to $15 billion. Koch, which co-founded Edged and has engaged Goldman Sachs to gauge buyer interest, has reportedly received multiple bids, though discussions remain ongoing and no final agreement has been reached.
Formerly known as Edged Energy, the company is part of Endeavour and holds a portfolio of data centers operating or in development across Spain, Portugal, and multiple US states including Arizona, Texas, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. A sale at this scale would represent one of the largest transactions in the sector this year, reflecting continuing investor appetite for data center infrastructure assets.

Musk confirms fourth SpaceXAI data center in Memphis, company starts removing ‘illegal’ gas turbines
Elon Musk has confirmed that SpaceXAI, formerly xAI, is building a fourth data center in Memphis, Tennessee, dubbed Minihard, which he says will house the same dense GPU configuration as its existing Macroharder facility. The confirmation comes as the company begins removing dozens of temporary gas turbines used to power its Memphis operations following a legal challenge over their permitting status.
SpaceXAI has agreed to remove 69 turbines over the next year ahead of the installation of a permanent 1.2GW gas power plant, following a complaint from the NAACP alleging the units were run in violation of the Clean Air Act and had damaged local air quality. The company says it remains committed to being a good neighbor as it continues to scale its Memphis compute footprint to support Grok and its growing neocloud business.

CyrusOne files to develop three buildings for $1.5bn data center campus in Fairfield, Texas
CyrusOne has filed permits for a three-building, 760MW data center campus in Fairfield, Texas, located next to Calpine’s Freestone Energy Campus natural gas plant. The $1.5 billion project, developed in partnership with Calpine, will see each of the three buildings span more than 306,000 square feet, with construction already underway on two of them.
The campus is expected to be complete by August 2027 and adds to a growing list of CyrusOne developments paired directly with natural gas generation in Texas, following a similar 400MW project announced with Calpine’s Thad Hill Energy Campus. No tenants have yet been assigned to the Fairfield buildings, according to regulatory filings.

Thermal storage firm 1414 Degrees signs 1GW Australian data centre deal
Thermal energy storage company 1414 Degrees has signed a non-binding Heads of Agreement with an unnamed Australian data center operator to develop up to 1GW of AI infrastructure at its Aurora Energy Precinct in South Australia. Under the arrangement, the operator would provide capital and technical expertise, while 1414 Degrees contributes land, power, and connectivity.
The deal reflects the growing role thermal storage and energy specialists are playing in enabling gigawatt-scale AI campuses, as developers look beyond traditional grid connections to secure reliable power at speed. Further details of the operator and project timeline have not yet been disclosed.

NTT Data plans $9 billion Japan data centre expansion – report
NTT Data is reportedly planning to spend at least $9 billion through 2033 to roughly quadruple its Japanese computing capacity to 1GW, as the country’s largest data center operator moves to meet surging demand for AI infrastructure. The investment would add approximately 750MW of capacity over the next seven years, with construction on a 100MW facility in Tochigi Prefecture, north of Tokyo, set to begin next year.
NTT Data is also increasing near-term spending, with data center investment for the current fiscal year expected to rise by about a third to roughly $3.3 billion. The scale of the outlay underscores how Japanese operators are racing to keep pace with hyperscale AI demand, even as some analysts caution that heavy capital commitments could weigh on the parent company’s competitive position against global rivals with deeper capital access.

DeepSeek reportedly plans 1GW data centre in Inner Mongolia
Chinese AI developer DeepSeek is reportedly planning a roughly 1GW data center in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, combining self-built infrastructure with capacity leased from other operators. The Hangzhou-based company is said to be targeting partial operation by late 2027 or early 2028, marking a significant shift from its earlier reliance on third-party compute.
Ulanqab’s cooler climate and access to wind and solar resources make it an attractive location for large-scale, energy-efficient AI campuses, and more than a dozen other firms already have projects planned in the city. While the reported 1GW figure has not been confirmed through a public filing, the move would position DeepSeek alongside major Chinese operators expanding compute capacity as part of the country’s Eastern Data, Western Compute initiative.
